La ambición del plan maestro para la nueva «Città della Scienza» es transformar el distrito militar en un ecosistema urbano autosuficiente. El proyecto apunta a convertirse en un ejemplo de nueva urbanización poniendo gran énfasis en la sostenibilidad. Además de las funciones de construcción y el atractivo visual, alienta la promoción de diseño sostenible, transporte bajo en carbono, energías renovables, tecnologías de automatización y nuevos materiales de construcción ecológicos.

The ambition of the master plan for the new « Città della Scienza » is to transform the military district into a self-sufficient urban ecosystem. The project aims at becoming an example of new urbanization placing great emphasis on sustainability. In addition to building functions and visual appeal, it encourages the promotion of sustainable design, low carbon transportation, renewable energies, automation technologies, and new green building materials.
