BIZANCIO OCCIDENTAL

Uno de los misterios culturales de nuestra época (el dilatado período instaurado desde el Renacimiento), es la escasa importancia que sus intelectuales, artistas y sobre todo sus mutantes ciudadanías, han dado a la civilización Bizantina. Se trata de un desinterés inexplicable porque sin duda el milenio que se forjó en torno a Constantinopla, después de que el Imperio Romano se fraccionara entre Oriente y Occidente, estuvo presidido por la dominante presencia del prestigio bizantino, una prestancia que abarcó casi todos los ámbitos de la política, la economía, el arte, la ciencia y la tecnología y, en general, todo el espacio que interesó al conocimiento y la creatividad humanos durante un lapso en el que no sólo floreció y mutó el cristianismo, sino se forjó el Islam e intensificó la influencia de las múltiples costumbres asiáticas, una confluencia de la cual surgió, al fin y al cabo, la tan resonante Cultura Occidental.

One of the cultural mysteries of our time (the long period established since the Renaissance), is the scant importance that its intellectuals, artists, and above all its mutant citizens, have given to Byzantine civilization. This is an inexplicable lack of interest because, without a doubt, the millennium that was forged around Constantinople, after the Roman Empire was divided between East and West, was dominated by the dominant presence of Byzantine prestige, an excellence that covered almost all areas of politics, economy, art, science and technology and, in general, all the space that interested human knowledge and creativity during a period in which not only Christianity flourished and mutated, but Islam was forged and intensified the influence of multiple Asian customs, a confluence from which, in the end, the all-sounding Western Culture emerged.
